asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether the educational and seamanship examinations for the 42 lower deck candidates for commissions who have taken the special course for sub-lieutenant have been completed; whether he will state the results and the certificates obtained, and the number of commissions to be awarded this year?

The results of the educational and seamanship examinations are not yet available. I hope it will be possible to publish them in the course of next week, and I will forward a copy to the hon. Member. The number of commissions to be awarded depends of course on the recommendations of the Final Selection Board.
