asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that bricks for the depots at Helensburgh and Perth, and for the barracks at Lanark, have been supplied from Manchester and Middlesbrough; what is the cost of carriage per thousand bricks from these places respectively, to Helensburgh, Perth and Lanark; and why these bricks were not purchased in Scotland?

Contracts for the barracks at Helensburgh and Perth have not yet been placed. The contract for Lanark Barracks is held by a Scottish firm. I have no information as to the sources from which the bricks are being obtained by the contractor or the cost of carriage.
