May I ask the Prime Minister whether he has any statement to make as regards business?

The Adjournment of the House will be moved, and I shall make a statement on the international situation. I would suggest that we should conclude the Debate to-day, and if this course is agreeable to the House, as I hope it will be, we shall ask leave at the end of the Debate to withdraw the Motion for the Adjournment of the House, and then move another Motion for the Adjournment until Tuesday next, 18th April.

With regard to the continuance of the Debate, while there is a good deal to be said for ending this Debate to-day, there is the point that sometimes in these Debates some Members on the back benches feel that they want an opportunity to speak, and I should like that matter to be considered in the course of the Debate.

Adjournment of the House

An adjournment is a break in the course of parliamentary business.

The House adjourns at the end of each day's business.

On a daily basis the House adjourns, or breaks, half an hour after the moving of the adjournment debate.

The House is also adjourned for several holiday periods during the session.

The more lengthy adjournments - often coinciding with the academic calendar - are known as recesses.
