Part of the debate – in the House of Commons at on 29 March 1939.
Mr Geoffrey Lloyd
, Birmingham, Ladywood
This explosion occurred in a factory in which explosives for use in mines and quarries are manufactured. The explosion took place in the incorporating house, which was destroyed, and I much regret that the works manager and two labourers who were in the building at the time lost their lives. I am glad to say that the other persons involved in the accident sustained only shock and minor injuries. No serious damage was done to other buildings. The explosion appears to have been due to some accident, and in accordance with the provisions of the Explosives Act, 1875, a full inquiry is being made.
