– in the House of Commons at on 6 February 1939.
Mr Dudley Joel
, Dudley
asked the Secretary of State for War, what steps are being taken to increase the establishments and strengths of the Yeomanry regiments of the Territorial Army; and whether it is proposed to establish any additional Yeomanry regiments?
Sir Victor Warrender
, Grantham
The establishment of a Yeomanry regiment of the Territorial Army was increased by 36 other ranks with effect from 1st November last, and, with a view to increasing the strength of these regiments, recruitment in excess of peace establishment is authorised up to 30 per cent. The formation of additional Yeomanry regiments is not contemplated.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
