Part of Oral Answers to Questions — India. – in the House of Commons at on 24 May 1937.
Mr Harry Day
, Southwark Central
asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he has any further information to give the House upon the political situation in India; and whether the Government propose to summon the provincial assemblies?
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
