asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he will state the arrangements that have been made for the British Navy to make use of the Simonstown base; and what plans for co-operation between the Fleet and the South African air force have been made?

Mr. Lindsay:

The conditions under which the freehold title of Admiralty lands at Simonstown was transferred to the Union Government in 1922 provided for their continued use by the Admiralty for Naval purposes, and as far as I know, no difficulty has arisen. As regards the second part of the question, constant liaison is maintained between the Commander-in-Chief, Africa Station and the Union Government.
