asked the Secretary of State for Air what were the total number of officers and other ranks recruited for the Royal Air Force in the last three months?

During the three months ending on 30th June, 117 officers were gazetted to the Royal Air Force (including 13 attached or seconded from the Navy or Army), and 1,455 airmen were finally accepted for enlistment.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
