35.

asked the Minister of Pensions whether he has come to any conclusion with regard to the request made by the British Empire Service League, following on their biennial conference in Melbourne last November, that there should be a special review of the position of Imperial ex-service men in the Dominions?

Yes, Sir, a senior officer of the Ministry, who has recently been acting as my representative in Canada, will shortly visit Australia and New Zealand. He will get in touch with the war pensions authorities there, and will meet representatives of ex-service men's organisations. I may perhaps add that the initiative in this matter was taken by my predecessor and by the hon. and gallant Member for St. Pancras, North (Sir Ian Fraser).

Will this facility be extended to South Africa in due course?

I will certainly consider that suggestion.

Can the Minister say if his proposed action meets with the approval of the Governments of the Dominions of Australia and New Zealand?

Yes, Sir. This step was taken with the cordial concurrence of the Prime Ministers of the Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand, and I should like to take the opportunity of again expressing appreciation of the constant help and co-operation which we have received from His Majesty's Governments in all parts of the Empire in our work for ex-service men.
