At present I have nothing to add to the statement on the general situation in China which I made on 17th June, in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Lincoln (Mr. Liddall) and to the various answers which I have given lately in the House in reply to question on recent events in North China.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
