– in the House of Commons on 25th June 1935.
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether and, if so, when legislation will be introduced to give effect to some or all of the unanimous recommendations of the Departmental Committee's Report of 1933 on industrial assurance?
Mr. CHAMBERLAIN:
I am not in a, position to add to the answer I gave on 28th February last to a question by the hon. Member for South Shields (Mr. H. Johnstone).
Will the right hon. Gentleman tell us when we may know whether this matter is going to be dealt with; and whether the long delay in dealing with it is because the Government have disagreed with the findings of the Committee or is afraid to tackle the vested interests responsible for the gross abuses which the Committee reveal?
May we take it that it is not the intention of the Government to implement the recommendations of that Committee?
