asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education the number of inquiries held by the Department into the reasons for the dismissal or the resignation of a teacher employed by a local education authority; and the number of cases where the teacher was re-employed by the local education authority?

The Board does not inquire into the reasons for the dismissal or resignation of teachers except in cases where a teacher is convicted of a criminal offence or where his engagement is terminated on account of misconduct or grave professional default. If the hon. Member has cases of this sort in mind I shall be glad to furnish him with such information as he may desire, if he will communicate with me.
