Part of Oral Answers to Questions — Scotland. – in the House of Commons at on 20 March 1935.
Mr David Kirkwood
, Dumbarton District of Burghs
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, as a result of the special inquiries he has made, he will state how much Russian petrol was bought for the Glasgow Corporation in 1933 and how much petrol from other firms what were the conditions of purchase in both cases; and in which case was the price offered the cheapest?
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
