– in the House of Commons at on 11 March 1935.
Vice-Admiral Ernest Taylor
, Paddington South
asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the resentment aroused among people of different religious denominations by the present exhibition in London of a statue which offends against public decency, he will, in exercise of his powers to prevent blasphemous or obscene exhibitions, instruct the police to remove or confiscate the statue in question; or what other steps he will take to guard against any breach of the peace which might be provoked by this spectacle?
Mr John Gilmour
, Glasgow Pollok
I have no information which leads me to suppose that any action is necessary.
Vice-Admiral Ernest Taylor
, Paddington South
Is my right hon. Friend not aware that there is very real resentment against this deplorable statue, and is it not possible to take some action about it?
