It is a matter of public knowledge that Arab Opposition to Jewish immigration into Palestine and the purchase of land by Jews is at present being ventilated freely in the Arab Press of Palestine. On the 1st December last the High Commissioner received a deputation from the Arab Executive, who presented a memorandum concerning the sale of Arab lands and Jewish immigration. The High Commissioner, in a reply which was published, stated plainly the policy of the Government in relation to these matters. That policy is well-known, and I am sure the House has complete confidence that the High Commissioner will carry it out fairly. I do not think that any particular inquiry is called for.
The Opposition are the political parties in the House of Commons other than the largest or Government party. They are called the Opposition because they sit on the benches opposite the Government in the House of Commons Chamber. The largest of the Opposition parties is known as Her Majesty's Opposition. The role of the Official Opposition is to question and scrutinise the work of Government. The Opposition often votes against the Government. In a sense the Official Opposition is the "Government in waiting".
