Oral Answers to Questions — Coal Industry. – in the House of Commons at on 5 March 1935.
Mr Henry White
, Birkenhead East
asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether his attention has been drawn to the discriminatory duty charged by the Canadian customs on Palestine fruit, and other produce, shipped from the United Kingdom to Canada; and, if so, what action he is taking in the matter
Mr. J. H. THOMAS:
I am not aware that any general discriminatory duty is charged in Canada on Palestine fruit and other Palestine produce shipped from the United Kingdom to Canada, but certain difficulties have arisen in connection with the duty charged on oranges from Palestine shipped to Canada via the United Kingdom. I am already in communication with His Majesty's Government in Canada as to this.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
