asked the Secretary for Mines how many works there are with plant dealing with low-temperature carbonisation; and will he say the number of tons of coal that are used annually in this process?

During 1933, nine low-temperature carbonisation plants were in operation on a commercial or semi-commercial scale. The amount of coal carbonised amounted to nearly 318,000 tons. Figues for 1934 are not yet available.
