Oral Answers to Questions — India. – in the House of Commons at on 4 March 1935.
Mr Henry Raikes
, Essex South Eastern
asked the Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that 'a young Hindu ascetic at Indore was recently found to be in possession of 140 bombs; and whether any of the explosives used in these can be traced to thefts of dynamite from Government stores at Dehra Dun?
Mr Samuel Hoare
, Chelsea
I have seen a Press report that following the discovery of bombs in a garden on the outskirts of Indore City an Indian was taken into custody. I have no information in regard to the second part of the question, but will inquire.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
