asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is yet in a position to announce the placing of the contracts for two cruisers for which tenders have been invited?

Lord STANLEY:

Subject to the settlement of certain points of detail, it has been decided to entrust the construction of these two cruisers to Vickers-Armstrong, Limited, and to Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Limited, of Greenock. The hull of the vessel allocated to Vickers-Armstrong will be built at Walker-on-Tyne, and the machinery at Barrow.
