asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether he will take steps to assist in the establishment of a branch from the England-Australia air-line to Hong Kong to Shanghai?

The establishment of such a service is under active consideration, but the negotiations are not yet sufficiently advanced to enable me to make any useful statement at present. My Noble Friend will do all that is possible to assist in the matter.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
