40.asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that large quantities of fish caught in waters east of the meridian of the North Cape are being imported into this country from Norway, contrary to the provisions of the Sea Fishery Act, 1933; and what steps are being taken to prevent this infraction of the law?

I have recently received information which shows that considerable quantities of fish caught in the waters referred to in the question are being landed in this country from Norway contrary to the provisions of the Sea Fishing Industry (Restriction of Fishing in Northern Waters) Order, 1933, made under Section 2 of the Sea Fishing Industry Act, 1933. The attention of the Norwegian Government has been directed to this by His Majesty's Minister at Oslo and they have been requested so to control their exports as to ensure compliance with this Order. It has been made clear to the Norwegian Government that, failing effective action on their part, His Majesty's Government will be compelled to take the necessary steps to enforce the Order.
Ministers make up the Government and almost all are members of the House of Lords or the House of Commons. There are three main types of Minister. Departmental Ministers are in charge of Government Departments. The Government is divided into different Departments which have responsibilities for different areas. For example the Treasury is in charge of Government spending. Departmental Ministers in the Cabinet are generally called 'Secretary of State' but some have special titles such as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Ministers of State and Junior Ministers assist the ministers in charge of the department. They normally have responsibility for a particular area within the department and are sometimes given a title that reflects this - for example Minister of Transport.
