The UNDER-Secretary of State for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Captain Crookshank):
I beg to move, "That the Lords Amendments to Commons Amendments and Lords consequential Amendments to the Bill be considered forthwith."
I apologise for the short notice which has been given, but that is due to our desire to get the Bill through and on to the Statute Book. The Amendments in question are only of a drafting character, and have had the attention and consideration of this House at an earlier stage.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
