The County Council of Norfolk, after reviewing the county districts, put forward to my right hon. Friend proposals which included the abolition of the Aylsham rural district and the division of the area between the adjoining rural districts. It was part of their scheme for reducing the number of rural districts in the county. A public inquiry into the county council's proposals was held by one of the inspectors of my Department, and the proposal affecting the Aylsham rural district was fully investigated. After considering the inspector's report and the representations that were made, my right hon. Friend decided to approve the county council's proposal. The decision was issued on the 31st ultimo. He can assure my hon. Friend that all the circumstances were fully considered.
