asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the inadequacy of the water supply from rain-water storage tanks and ponds in the villages of Therfield, Kelshall and Northampstead; and whether he is satisfied that the emergency matters proposed by the Rural District Council of Ashwell are adequate and can be maintained at the expense of the inhabitants without special assistance from the Exchequer?

Sir H. YOUNG:

One of my-engineering inspectors visited this locality on the 6th instant. There was a shortage of water supplies, but there was no reason to think that the position would not be met out of local financial resources by the emergency proposals of the rural district council. The recent rains have eased the position. I am informed that a permanent scheme of water supply for these areas is being prepared.
