The amounts falling due, from time to time, to the British railway companies from the Argentine National and Provincial Governments are by way of current account for freights and charges, and are discharged, also from time to time, in the normal way. I understand that substantial collections in cash, bills and bonds have been effected in certain cases in recent months from the National Government. There is no direct connection between this matter and the terms of the Anglo-Argentine Convention and Protocol of the 1st May last, except in so far as an improvement in the general position of the railways may be expected to follow the conclusion of that agreement.
