asked the Minister of Labour if he is in a position to say how many unemployed miners from Lancashire have been sent to training centres during 1930; how many during 1931; and if any of them were found employment after they had been there?

During 1930, 293 unemployed miners from Lancashire were admitted to Government Training and Transfer Instructional Centres. The corresponding figure for 1931 up to the end of November is 114. The great majority of those who have completed their courses have been placed in employment.

Is the Minister not yet satisfied that these training centres have failed to fulfil the purpose for which they were set up?
