asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether it is the intention of the Government to review the naval building programme of the late Government with a view to ascertaining whether it is sufficient to keep the Royal Navy up to the maximum strength permitted by the terms of the London Naval Treaty?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL:

The naval building programme for 1931 has already been authorised by Parliament, and it would be premature to say anything as to what further programme it will be necessary to submit in 1932. I need scarcely say that this is a subject which is continually under review by the Admiralty, who will make proposals when necessary to His Majesty's Government.

Can my right hon. Friend assure the House that it is the intention of the Government to build up to the maximum strength permitted under the terms of the London Naval Treaty?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL:

I do not think I can add anything to the answer that I have given.
