asked the Minister of Labour whether he proposes to take steps for the preparation of a cost-of-living index appropriate to the conditions of the present time in substitution for the pre-War cost-of-living index now in use?
This question has been examined on several occasions in recent years and the decision has been uniformly against altering the existing series of index numbers. I do not at present contemplate any departure from this policy but I propose to keep the matter under observation.
