Major-General Sir Alfred Knox
, Wycombe
asked the Secretary of State for India whether he has yet received any communication from the Government of India relative to the grant of a medal to the troops engaged in active operations on the North-West frontier of India in 1930–31?
Mr Samuel Hoare
, Chelsea
Yes, Sir; and the matter is now under consideration.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
