– in the House of Commons at on 12 March 1931.
asked the Minister of Labour to what extent standard hours of labour have been lengthened or shortened in this country and in the prin- cipal foreign countries during the last five years?
In this country, the only industry in which, during the last five years, there has been any general change in hours of labour is coalmining. I cannot state the extent to which hours of labour have been lengthened or shortened in foreign countries.
Is it not very important to ratify the Washington Eight Hours Convention in order to prevent the hours being lengthened?
Certainly.
