Oral Answers to Questions — Education. – in the House of Commons at on 12 February 1931.
asked the President of the Board of Education if he is aware that the list of public elementary schools which was formerly published annually has not been issued since 1927; and if he will now publish this list, showing in each case the accommodation and attendance and, as regards non-provided schools, the denominations to which the schools belong?
I shall shortly be considering what will be the most appropriate date for the re-publication of the list to which the hon. Member refers. It used to be published annually before the War, but has been published only twice—namely for 1922 and 1927—since the end of the War, and I do not think that the expenditure involved in annual publication would be justified.
I am quite prepared to consider it, but I do not think there is any occasion for publishing a list for the country as a whole.
Is it not very important, especially in view of the fact that the whole education scheme is to be reorganised, that we should know how many of these schools there are?
