asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in the negotiations now in progress with the Egyptian representatives, arrangements are being made for trade commissioners?

Mr. A. HENDERSON:

There is already a commercial secretary at His Majesty's Residency in Cairo, and provision for an Assistant Commercial Secretary has been made in the Estimates of the Department of Overseas Trade. This matter has not been discussed in connection with the present negotiations.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
