asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the excessive speed at which mechanically propelled vehicles are allowed to swing round from Bridge Street to the Victoria Embankment; and whether he will arrange for a "Slow Down" warning notice to be placed at the junction of those thoroughfares?

I do not think that in normal circumstances motor vehicles at this street junction travel at a speed greater than is necessary to clear the traffic and to prevent congestion in Bridge Street. A "Slow Down" warning notice would adversely affect the movement of traffic in the whole of this important area. The junction is somewhat difficult for pedestrians and to obviate the necessity for crossing the road there is a subway and a notice bearing the words:

Minister

Ministers make up the Government and almost all are members of the House of Lords or the House of Commons. There are three main types of Minister. Departmental Ministers are in charge of Government Departments. The Government is divided into different Departments which have responsibilities for different areas. For example the Treasury is in charge of Government spending. Departmental Ministers in the Cabinet are generally called 'Secretary of State' but some have special titles such as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Ministers of State and Junior Ministers assist the ministers in charge of the department. They normally have responsibility for a particular area within the department and are sometimes given a title that reflects this - for example Minister of Transport.
