asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he will inform the House of the composition of the Committee to be appointed by the Government of the presidency, in accordance with the request of the provincial legislature, to investigate the causes of the recent disturbances in Bombay?

I will certainly give this information to the House as soon as it is available, but the personnel of the Committee is not yet settled.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
