asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the total amount expended out of Indian revenues to date on the new capital scheme at New Delhi: whether any part of this scheme still remains uncompleted; and, if so, what is the estimated cost of the work outstanding?

The amount expended up to the end of November last was Rs.13,37,06,820, and the balance of the estimate required to complete the project was at that date Rs.1,11,42,380. The sterling equivalents of these amounts, converted at 1s. 6d. the rupee, are respectively £10,028,011 and £835,678. These are the latest figures available.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
