asked the Financial Secretary of the Treasury, if he will give a list of shipping and mail subsidies paid by the Government during the last financial year?

Mr. SAMUEL:

A sum of £10,000 was provided on the Scottish Office Vote as a subsidy towards the Hebridean steamer services. This was the only payment that can properly be described as a shipping or mail subsidy.

Is there not a subsidy provided for the Cunard and White Star Lines for the carrying of mails?

The Cunard matter has ceased.
