Part of the debate – in the House of Commons at on 13 March 1929.
Sir Basil Peto
, Barnstaple
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can now give the result of the representations he has made to the Colombian Government on the subject of the arrest of the captain and crew of the British steamer "Tritonia"; whether they have been released; and what is the nature of the charge made against them?
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
