asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what was the net sum of money out of the Egyptian indemnity of £500,000 that was handed over to the Government of the Sudan; what instructions were given to the Government of the Sudan for the use of this gift; and what has been the actual use made of this money?

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
