Oral Answers to Questions — Palestine. – in the House of Commons at on 4 March 1929.
Miss Arabella Lawrence
, East Ham North
asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any recent Regulations have been introduced in Palestine on the subject of corporal punishment in prison; and, if so, whether he will place a copy in the Library?
Mr William Ormsby-Gore
, Stafford
New Regulations were made in December last which have the effect of reducing the number of prison offences for which corporal punishment may be awarded. I will place a copy in the Library.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
