The strength of the British Army of the Rhine, excluding the small detachment about 100 strong in the Saar district, was approximately 6,000 on the 1st January last. These troops are stationed in the vicinity of Wiesbaden.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
