Owing to the difference in the systems on which the British and German Estimates are presented, the comparison is by no means easy. The amount provided for the services referred to in the German Estimates for 1913 is approximately £99,000, converting the mark at 20 to the £. But this does not include expenditure by certain local bodies to which grants were made for a variety of purposes, including expenses connected with hospitals and sanitation, which are not shown separately in the Estimates. The amount provided for similar services in the Estimates for 1923–24 was approximately £116,700, which included all expenditure on buildings.
