asked the Home Secretary the number of cases at the London Sessions this year in which sentences on motorists convicted of being drunk while in charge of a motor car have been reduced or quashed on appeal?

Mr. DAVIES:

There were 11 such appeals: in four cases the convictions and sentences were confirmed; in five the convictions were confirmed and the sentences modified; in two the convictions were quashed.

Were any of these gentlemen convicted members of the United Kingdom Alliance?

also asked the Home Secretary (1) in how many cases where persons have been convicted of being drunk while in charge of a motor car during the present year the sentence included suspension of the driving licence;

(2) how many persons have been convicted of being drunk while in charge of a motor car and sentenced to imprisonment by the Courts during the present year; how many of these convictions were the subject of appeal; and in how many cases was the sentence of imprisonment quashed on appeal?

I regret that information upon these questions is not available, and could not be obtained without great difficulty.
