asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will consider making a suggestion to the League of Nations that a lead should be given by that body in the direction of bringing back passports to the methods in use before the War?

The League of Nations have already given the lead. His Majesty's Government are doing all that is possible to carry out, as far as they are concerned, the resolutions of the Paris Passport Conference of 1920, which was held under the auspices of the League.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
