Oral Answers to Questions — British Army. – in the House of Commons at on 4 March 1924.
Sir Edward Spears
, Loughborough
asked the Secretary of State for War what are the decisions of the army Council with reference to the Report of Lord Weir's Committee on Establishments; and whether the economies recommended by the Report have been accepted?
Mr Stephen Walsh
, Ince
Some of the recomendations have been accepted, and the resultant economies are reflected in the Estimates for next year. Others are still under discussion. I will endeavour to give the House further information on the subject in the course of the Debate on Army Estimates.
Mr Frederick Montague
, Islington West
On a point of Order. I thought that last week it was agreed that only two questions were to be asked by each hon. Member?
Mr John Whitley
, Halifax
That was not decided.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
