The compilation of the statistics relating to the various countries of the Empire has been put in hand, but it will be some days before it can be completed. I will then have the figures circulated in the OFFICIAL REPORT. The statistics do not enable the total volume, as distinct from value, to be stated.

Mr. WEBB:

I regret that the necessary information with regard to the volume of the internal trade is not available, either for this country or the United States.

In view of the fact that this census of production cannot be taken probably for some years, would it be possible to make the nearest possible estimate based upon the ratio at the time of the last census?

Mr. WEBB:

I am afraid I do not quite understand. It might be possible to make some sort of estimate of the production of the country, but that has no relation to the trade of the country, because you cannot tell how many times a certain product is turned over.
