(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary for Mines whether he had any information with regard to the explosion at the Plean Colliery, in the county of Stirling, in which 12 men were reported to have been killed and five men seriously injured?

I have no information as to this most deplorable accident from any official source, except a telegram received this morning from the divisional inspector, who went to the colliery immediately on receipt of news of the disaster. This telegram reports the death of 12 persons, and states that the accident occurred in a part of the pit where safety lamps are used. If I receive any further information in the course of to-day, I shall send it to the Press at the earliest possible moment.
