asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether Michael Roche, who was convicted, in January last, of a serious crime against military disciplne and sentenced to six months' imprisonment, was released in April; and, if so, whether those responsible for the discipline of the Army were first consulted, and did they approve?

When it was decided to release the other men who were convicted with Roche, his case was also considered, and it was thought right to remit the remainder of his sentence. Roche was convicted by a civil court of larceny, and no question of military discipline arose.

Will the right hon. Gentleman say who gave orders for the release of this man, as well as the two Irish prisoners convicted of stealing the guns? Was it the Cabinet, or the right hon. Gentleman himself as Home Secretary?
