Alert me about debates like this
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Geddes Committee have been asked to inquire into the operations of the Navy and Army and Air Force institutes; and, if so, whether the accounts of that body have been laid before the Committee?
The institutes are not borne on voted moneys, and their expenditure is not therefore within the terms of reference of the Committee on National Expenditure.
Were not these institutes financed with Government money? Have they not incurred vast losses during the last three years and yet refuse to publish a balance sheet?
I am not aware of that.
Can the right hon. Gentleman say when a balance sheet will be published?
I am afraid that that does not come within my purview.
