asked the Prime Minister whether, in the interests of economy, he will now abolish the vacant office of Minister without Portfolio?

The office has not in the meantime been filled up.

Captain TUDOR-REES:

Are we to understand from that that the Government are considering the advisability of not filling the vacancy?

It is not filled in the meantime, because it is not necessary to do so now, but we cannot be sure that pressure of work will not make it necessary again to have a Minister without Portfolio.
