The majority of DFID's support on HIV is through the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM). Between 2002 and 2012, GFATM- supported programmes provided 89 million HIV counselling and testing sessions in sub-Saharan Africa; the UK provided approximately 9% of total funding to GFATM in this period.

DFID contributes to prevention and control of diseases causing hepatitis in African countries through support to the GAVI Alliance (vaccines and immunisation), water, sanitation and hygiene programmes, and work to strengthen health systems and services.
